On an island in the Baltic Sea
A design for a family garden of 1500 m2 in the Swedish countryside. A holiday home for a family with young children. The brief was to make a beautiful low-maintenance country garden. It was important to retain the old trees and to add berry shrubs for the children.
Loose natural sweeping grass in the lawn with mown paths and new perennial borders were created around the house. We designed informal ’garden rooms’ with seating areas. The garden was built in stages and included a woodland border, a children’s play area, a long dry-stone wall, a pergola and a new front entrance.
We selected a soft color scheme with pollinating perennials and wind tolerant shrubs that could take the brisk sea winds. The plants for the shade border was selected for texture and shape more than flower.
